The Ordinary Lactic acid 10%
Hello, skincare enthusiastic!
Today I came up with another cult product from The ordinary lactic acid 10% + HA.
Let me do a quick intro of lactic acid.
Currently, we have two exfoliation in the market, physical and chemical.
Physical exfoliation is the scrubs that we have been using it for years.
While chemical exfoliation is better in the long run and it’s efficient too.
Chemical exfoliant are three types :
PHA – polyhydroxy acid,
AHA- alpha hydroxy acid &
BHA – beta-hydroxy acid.
These acids are measured based on their actives strengthen.
The lesser the milder and better for beginners.
Today I will be sharing my experience of The Ordinary using lactic acid 10% serum.
We have been using lactic acid-based skincare for the longest, lactic acid can be found in dairy products like milk, curd they don’t have a uniform pH level which changes from different dairy brands.
In such a scenario, this formulated product steep the markets.
The Ordinary Lactic acid 10%+ HA:
The ordinary formulated lactic acid in two strength 5% and 10%.
I went ahead with 10% lactic acid. It comes with a pH of 3.8 which is close to skin pH 5.5

The Ordinary lactic acid 10% + HA
I have been using actives for the past three years, I’m not new to any acids or activities, it helped my skin immensely.
I have combination acne skin with few pigmentation.
AHA helps in resurfacing the upper skin layer, AHA are water soluble.
lactic acid is an unsung hero in boosting radiance.
Lactic acid in lower strength acts as a humectant while regular usage may help in boosting collagen production and thus helping in smoothing out wrinkles and fine lines.
Humectant: it draws moisture from the environment.
Lactic acid is a exfoliate gently and it help dull cells slough off from the surface, it speed up skin cells turnover. This you will witness a radiant, smoother and brighter skin.
Ingredients
Aqua (Water), Lactic Acid, Glycerin, Pentylene Glycol, Propanediol, Sodium Hydroxide, Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer, Tasmannia Lanceolata Fruit/Leaf Extract, Acacia Senegal Gum, Xanthan Gum, Isoceteth-20, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, Ethylhexylglycerin, 1,2-Hexanediol, Caprylyl Glycol.
My experience:
I use it in my PM routine along with other hydrating products.
At first, it did sting my skin like never before, my skin threshold is very high I’m a skincare Blogger I regularly test out products.
For the first time, I feel the pain of Newly introduced active.
The Ordinary lactic acid 10%+HA is too strong for any skin type, I bought it as I have been using Glycolic acid toner in 7% and AHA30% + BHA2% from one & half year still my skin was intolerant to 10% lactic acid.
I packed it with other calming and hydrating gels without actives as a result it subsided.
Now I use it twice a week, did tweak my skincare while using actives so that I don’t get inflamed skin. My skin got to adjust to it
As mentioned on the ordinary website they quoted 10% Lactic acid as milder for all skin types except sensitive.
I would highly recommend you to start with 5% lactic acid, irrespective of your skin threshold level.
Remember the constant usage of lactic acid can help to boost collagen production and smoothing out fine lines.
It sink in the skin and instantly gives a radiant glow simultaneously moisturizes the skin.
Do’s:
Always use AHA or BHA in pm.
While using actives don’t use other actives, or layering a hydrating product.
Always start with less percentage.
Don’t use AHA while you’re at retinol, since retinol itself is a exfoliator. You don’t want to peel off skin with excess exfoliation.
It’s helps in
✔️ Acne
✔️Hyperpigmentation & sun burn
✔️ Stimulate collagen
✔️ improves fine lines and wrinkles
✔️ increase ceramide
✔️Ideal for dry and sensitive skin.
✔️ Improves skin hydration.
Conclusion:
Lactic acid is great to include in skincare, I would recommend to go for lesser strength like 5%, in india we don’t have that freedom to choose perhaps you can opt for 10% by buffering it with moisturizer.
Lactic acid can make photosensitive, layering sunblock is unquestionable.
Since many Chemical exfoliants are not available in india, we can totally rely on Suganda AHA10%, though i haven’t tried it but the review are great.
Till next,
keep glowing.
That’s such an in-depth & insightfully written post on the acid; i had been thinking of starting with it but had my doubts regarding do’s n don’ts .. all cleared now.
Quite a helpful information about chemical exfoliants. As I have sensitive skin, let me start with 5% lactic acid. What do you say?
I will have to try this sometime. I have used few products from The ordinary they were good
Lactic Acid seems to be really good and a product that needs to be included in the skincare routine, but as you have mentioned,it is better to start with a mild potency.
I wasn’t aware how lactic Acid can be so beneficial, found this post really helpful t know more about it
Wow! This seems like an amazing product for me… I am not using any actives right now, so I may give this a try! Thank you for reviewing!
